Meditate

I think our world is looking for a savior in all the wrong places.

We expect our politicians to save us. We follow them because of their empty words and promises. We put all of our hope in them only to have them bail on a promise that they made during the campaign. We want our athletes to save us. If only Loyola could have won the championship, then I’d be happy. If Kris Bryant hits a homer in right now, my day will be good. If the Bears could win the Super Bowl, then I’d need nothing else. We look to celebrities to be examples to us of what we think it means to live right. We envy their car, their house, their money. We think that if we could attain that, then we’d be happy. Sometimes, it’s not even people we will never meet that we think will save us, it’s people who we encounter every day. We think if we could just get that one person to be our friend, we will finally be popular. We think having a boyfriend/girlfriend will make us happy. We think that a trusted teacher has all the answer. But the truth is none of these things will satisfy us.

Jesus knows that it’s not easy to follow Him. He knows that we can be tempted by so many of the other things we encounter on a daily basis. It becomes easy for us to follow these things down the wrong, wider path towards power, wealth and comfort.

But we are not made for this world, were made for something much greater. So why would we settle?

Jesus is calling us on to heaven. He came so that we might know Him and follow Him down the narrow gate. But if you don’t know Jesus in this life, why would you want to spend eternity with Him in the next?

Jesus offers us peace. He offers us love. He offers us sacrifice. But often these things are not as glamorous as what we find in our world. We do have to chose. Who do you want to follow?
Jesus is our savior. No one else can save you. No one else can offer you the love that He has. No one else can die for you. Let Jesus be your savior and find life with Him.

Pray

Where are you looking in this world for a savior?

Who do you follow in this world?

How are you following and coming to know Jesus in this life?

Contemplate

"Jesus, you are my savior."

"Lord, I need you."

"You give life."

Act

Choose today who you will follow.
